“There are shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.” -Vicki Baum
I love ballet. In my life, I have been fortunate enough to find my true passion and have dance be a part of my life. Ballet has influenced my life in so many positive ways. Without ballet, my life would be unimaginably boring. I live to dance.
With dance, I have discovered a happiness that is not possible in anything else. The feeling of dancing en pointe, tutus, Nutcracker music, performing onstage, even simple class exercises—they are all something indescribable to me. I love the feeling, and there is nothing better in this world than it. This is one way that dance has affected my life: I am able to experience true happiness and true joy through dance.
Another way that dance has influenced my life is that it has made me a stronger person. I have had many successes in ballet, but I have also had many failures. I always hope that I get the part I want or get accepted into what I want to… but in reality, what are the odds of that always happening? I have had my share of failures, but these have been given to me for a reason. If I had been a prodigy with success after success, I would not have the strength to overcome any obstacle in life. These failures have allowed me to work harder to achieve what I want. I am strong enough to overcome anything that life throws at me, in dance or in life in general.
Dance has pushed me to achieve things that I never thought would be possible. For example, achieving a double pirouette en pointe was something I first thought would be impossible. I have learned to challenge myself and to always set the expectations of myself higher and higher.
In life in general, dance has taught me important skills like managing my time. With all of my rehearsals and classes, I have learned to take any extra time that I have and put it to good use. I have learned to do my homework in any spare time I have and manage to still get excellent grades even with dance. Additionally, I have learned to have confidence and be graceful even outside of dance. Dance has influenced my whole life.
Also, dance has taught me that dreams can come true. Some people are given their dreams without hard work, while others give up on their dreams after just one failure. But through dance I have learned that dreams can come true with determination and hard work.
Through dance, I have been given hope and a dream. I can’t imagine my future without dance. I know it’s tough to make it in the professional dance world, but my passion for ballet is strong enough to overcome any challenges. It has taught me to reach for the stars and never give up on my dream. Just those few seconds of starting pointe for the first time, performing onstage, and other moments show me that I will do anything and everything that is necessary to have dance be a part of my future. I will reach for the stars, and I know that I can one day reach my dream.
Overall, dance has influenced my life in such amazing ways. I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to find my true passion of dance in my life. I am thankful for all that dance has given me in life. Dance has influenced my life in so many ways, but mainly it has given me one thing. Dance is the only thing in this world that has given me the confidence that the stars I see in the distance—my dream of becoming a dancer—can one day be within my grasp.
