The Beginning

As a young entrepreneur still in college, Aleksandra Efimova founds Russian Pointe in order to provide North American dancers with the finest pointe shoes, created in Moscow in the grand tradition of Russian craftsmanship. Russian Pointe grows rapidly to become one of the best known and most trusted brands of ballet supplies, with retailers throughout the continent.

2005 - 2006

The Move

Russian Pointe’s home base moves from Michigan to Chicago, where a larger warehouse, centralized location and expanded staff help the company grow and provide improved customer service and order fulfillment. Ms. Efimova quickly becomes involved in Chicago’s artistic and cultural community, hosting events and joining boards and committees dedicated to advancing the arts, Russian-American business and other aspects of community enrichment.

The Boutique

The elegant, theater-inspired Russian Pointe Dance Boutique opens in Chicago and, in celebration of its first anniversary, moves to Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. Almost overnight, the Boutique becomes a hub for artistic and cultural activity, appreciated and celebrated by artists, press and other visitors.

Special Blend

In keeping with Russian Pointe’s special blend of modernity with classicism, the Jewels Collection of pointe shoes is introduced to immediate acclaim and lasting popularity. The collection’s three models, each named in Russian after a sparkling gem, attract dancers with cutting-edge qualities including a pleatless toe platform and a supple next-generation shank.

Fitting

Ms. Efimova and her dedicated staff begin offering in-depth pointe-fitting seminars at Russian Pointe Dance Boutique, and trunk shows at retail locations throughout North America. With the seminars and trunk shows, the company now offers a level of education found nowhere else in the dance-supplies market.

Videos

Russian Pointe releases a groundbreaking video, Crafted by hand, fit by hand: Fitting pointe shoes with Russian Pointe. Professionally filmed at Russian Pointe Dance Boutique, the video is a lively, vibrant illustration of fitting techniques, and complements the extensive Fitting Manual released later this year. The Fitting Manual is created for retailers, to accompany seminar-based training and function as a stand-alone resource.

Graduation from Harvard

Ms. Efimova graduates from Harvard Business School’s elite Executive Owner/Management Program, where she began advanced studies in 2009. In combination with her previous studies and experience in business, marketing and entrepreneurship, and her artistic background including studies at the prestigious Hermitage State Art Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, Ms. Efimova’s Harvard education helps to enrich Russian Pointe.

Growing Through Arts

Growing Through Arts, Russian Pointe’s sister company, is launched with the publication of a set of ballet-themed storybooks, activity books and educational play-sets for small children. Drawing on her childhood experiences in Russia, Ms. Efimova creates Growing Through Arts materials to assist in children’s early academic development while exposing them to the arts.

Parent's Guide: 2nd Edition

The second edition of Russian Pointe’s Parents’ Guide to Beginning Pointe is published. Written in cooperation with a professional dance writer and master educator and illustrated with charming photos of young dancers, the Parents’ Guide gives young dancers and their parents an unmatched resource in a beautiful, souvenir-worthy format.
